Pierz Oktoberfest is a cherished annual celebration held in Pierz, Minnesota, honoring the town’s German heritage with a weekend full of festivities. Scheduled for August 30th, 2026, this event brings together residents and visitors for a variety of activities that highlight community spirit and cultural traditions.
Every single year for what seems like 50 years, the Oktoberfest has been an event in Pierz. The town of Pierz has deep German roots, therefore we celebrate our heritage….except, we do it in August, before school starts, before it gets too cold to have a parade and before October. Which makes no sense, but the beer tastes the same whether it is August or October.
Fun Festivities For All
The festivities kick off on Saturday morning with the Oktoberfest 5K Run, offering participants a scenic route through the town. Recently added to the weekend is an interesting non-german event coined as Walkin’ Wings. It is a Masters BBQ event, with wing offerings to the public from 2-6pm. You can vote for your favorite. They have been selling German Pretzels at the event, so that makes up for the non-german theme. In the evening there is excellent live music performances, a beer garden and sometimes fireworks at dusk.
Now, back to the German celebration. The highlight of the weekend is the Lions Club Parade on Sunday at 11:00 AM. Nearly an hours worth of colorful floats, and community groups marching (but the Marching Band rides on a flatbed trailer…hmmm, maybe they aren’t a marching band after all) through the streets of Pierz. As soon as the parade ends most people march to the Pierz Park for amazing, authentic, German food, fresh homemade pie, cold beer, drawings, contests, entertainment, and live German music and dancing.
Family-friendly activities abound, including a petting zoo, bounce houses, face painting, push-pedal-pull contest for kids, and keg toss for adults. The celebration also features traditional German dishes like bratwurst with sauerkraut, Gemuse stew, and Haluski, as well as German beers served in the beer garden. Stay in Pierz for the weekend and enjoy all the festivities.
